How to open an ASP account
Eligibility, ASP agreement, deposit rules, interest, and the path from ASP-tili to loan readiness.
Opening an ASP account (ASP-tilin avaaminen) starts with an ASP agreement at a bank. Adults who are first-home buyers can usually start; ages 15–17 can save too if deposits come from income they may dispose of under guardianship rules — confirm eligibility with the bank and Valtiokonttori.
Compare banks on bonus interest (lisäkorko, typically agreed in the 2–4% range), service, and how they handle a later ASP loan. You can often move the ASP account to another bank later if you do not withdraw funds during the transfer.
The first accepted deposit when you open is usually €50–€1,500. After that you need at least 20 accepted monthly deposits of €50–€1,500 each. Months do not have to be consecutive — you may pause. Accounts opened before 1 June 2026 may still use quarterly saving options; check which method applies to you.
ASP account interest (ASP-tili korko) is typically 1% tax-free per year from the contracting bank. Bonus interest is paid when you buy with ASP savings, for the opening year plus up to five following calendar years — exact lisäkorko is set in your agreement.
Aim the ASP-tili maksimi toward at least 10% of the home you expect to buy. Interest and lisäkorko can count toward that share; other own funds may also be included under the rules. Saving above 10% is possible, but bonus interest applies to funds used for the purchase.
You are loan-ready when the 10% own-savings share and the required deposit count are met (or you use temporary financing if allowed). Then read how to get an ASP loan before you shop apartments.
ASP rules were reformed from 1 June 2026. Treat deposit bands, interest, and eligibility here as a checklist — verify current figures with Valtiokonttori and your bank before you open or change the account.
